that's a good pic of ruffnut

  5. Hey! The Scauldron's colour is fading! No wonder there were colour differences! So whenever a dragon gets sick they fade colour? Cool.

  6. Woah. Awesome. I cant wait!

  7. I read somewhere the Scauldron starts to like Ruffnut. Is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  8. LOL that's pretty good.

  15. Why is it that so often these pictures we get as a sneak peek are either blurry or make no sense?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Now that was a good episode. XD I had a feeling Astrid would find a way to get Snotlout off her back, though I am a little bummed out that Hiccup didn't get jealous... sure he knew it was pretend but I'm a die-hard shipper at heart. I wonder if
    *SPOILERS*
Ruffnut will have short hair in the next episode or will it grow back to stick with the status quo? Knowing the animation budget it just might.

I can't wait to watch this!

  19. And we all now know why the twins sucked at dragon training before. Hiccup was boring them in class. The only thing they like is explosions and more explosions, so there's the problem. XD

    ReplyDelete
  20. Oh and a new episode that will be up at the end of February will be called "The Eel Effect." XD Maybe we'll learn at last why do 'most' dragons hate eels so much.

  22. AGREED! I JUST DIED WHEN I SAW THAT! I love those videos, and I have always sorta thought "Hey, HTTYD is a BIG cultural deal too! Why do all the whovians and treckies [who are great] get noticed but we HTTYD fans don't even exist?" Then this showed up, and I was just totally freaking out! And they didn't even make fun of HTTYD! So good, just so good!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Plus it sort of advertises HTTYD, and alot of people watch those how it should have ended videos, so no doubt there will be alot for The Desolation of Smaug. That was a really good movie. (Especially the HTTYD2 trailer right before it c:)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yep! And this sort of advertisement is really fun, and Dreamworks doesn't have to pay a penny for it! I'm still just so surprised and excited that my two favorites showed up in one of those vids! Seriously! When I friend of mine told me about it this evening, they said, "The video is great, and there is a cameo in it that you will really like." I then proceeded to say "NO?" He says, "Yes". Me: NO. Him: Yes... and at that point I kept on just saying no in utter disbelief and excitement! So cool.

  26. hahaha I totally forgot about that, you have a very good point. Still its not even the stuff with Astrid and Snotlout that I worry about its the fact that Hiccup and Astrid don't show any kind real affection towards each other. I mean I think a main theme of the second movie is besides the deal with Hiccup's mom and fighting of Drago I think his name is, is Hiccup marrying Astrid and if this is suppose to be a bridge between the movies then they should be showing something don't you think?

I also heard there is going to be somekind of special to end the series so I'm thinking that they may do something with that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why? Snotlout seems to be the only one oblivious to the fact that Astrid hates his guts.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm waiting to see this episode on watch cartoons online. WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. You guys can watch it here http://www.animeflavor.com/dragons-season-2-defenders-of-berk-episode-13-free-scauldy

This was an okay episode. The not rendered ground was kinda weird but that's fine.

    *spoilers*
There are many things that bug me in this episode though. The tiny rocks shouldn't of made a different to the giant Scauldron, the splint they made was way bigger and I'd say way heavier than the those rocks. Also did the number of rocks on it's wing change from the start of the episode half way through?
And finally hopefully with Snotlout turned off Astrid, this episode marks the end of the forced pairing of the two. Should be some Hiccup and Astrid pairing coming up :D

  32. So far we gotten great animations and writers for these episodes, the only drawback is the lack of new characters and that each episode has had a shallow plot. At this rate I need 20 more episodes for the season and Heather to be in some of them, She is like the Alvin and Dagur

    but for the allies.

  39. I agree with you that things will start to mend in. And I'm really glad that it wasn't so sudden, it felt just right. I really loved this episode, and the that they tried new camera positions (I know there aren't really cameras, can't just think of the right way to say it) are also a nice addition.

  40. Hi guys, I drew a new dragon the morning. I have no idea why...
    I call the species ScarrVision

  41. Wow that's like a praying mantis dragon!

    ReplyDelete
  42. In my opinion, I think Astrid and Hiccup are kind of keeping their relationship on the down low; as in not letting everyone aware of it. When we see them kissing or flirting, its usually away from everyone else, or so subtle that no one else notices. At this point I don't think Hiccup is brave enough to have realized his feelings for Astrid, not yet anyway. This is his first relationship and he probably has no idea (like most kids) what to do now that he knows she likes him back. Also I heard on youtube that someone asked a person who works on the film (on twitter) if there would be a marriage in the second movie, and he replied there was a 0 percent chance of a hiccstrid marriage in HTTYD 2.

At the beginning, I was like, shallow plot, hey ? and then it really turned out to be awesome !!!
*SPOILERS* I was laughing so hard at the "forbidden frienship" moment !! and loved Ruff's lullabies too. And the end.. wow, it was beautiful and unexpectantly emotional...

    Just came out

  45. Ya I mean I'm not disagreeing with what your saying but even with that new post I just read with the new Astrid poster the description says that she joins her boyfriend Hiccup to fight drago. I know that I can say this now but that's even more evidence that they should be doing something with them in the series rather then just do the stupid snotlout, Astrid stuff that's just frankly annoying at this point. I honestly would barely call it a relationship, I mean sure they ride each other's dragon when they need a lift or they sit next to each other but ever since episode 13 of riders of berk they just totally dropped it.

Anyway thanks for filling me in on the marriage thing. I was just going by what I heard but I kinda figured that they wouldn't go that far yet with them. Maybe in the 3rd movie so we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Just watched it and all I can say is wow. Compared to the flight stuff this was a really good episode! I was glad to finally see at least one of the twins show some emotion instead of love for destruction. Especially Ruff's dedication to Scauldy.

(I can't be the only one who thought Scauldy was adorable, can I? c: )

    ReplyDelete
  47. I heard there wouldn't even be that much of Hiccup and Astrid at all in HTTYD2 except for what we saw in the trailer and the footage from when Obama visited.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hopefully this looks like the end of it. Astrid seemed to have solved the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Agreed, The Flight Stuff just sucked. This one had its flaws, but it was much better. I think the intense focus on a single problem helped direct the other side plots that the episode started to wander slightly on.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well why wouldn't we? I'm just asking for one pic per every ten that makes a little sense and isn't just a screencap of one of the teens standing there doing nothing in the pic.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah but they showed us the whole thing, then that would spoil the episode. And it's nice that they're showing us anything at all instead of nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Flight Stuff was SO boring and predictable. It didn't feel how to train your dragon-y.... if that makes sense. Lol.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Does anyone else use the Season Pass on iTunes for Defenders of Berk? Because they don't seem to have posted this episode yet and it's irking me bigtime.

    ReplyDelete
  54. No, that entirely makes sense. That's kind of what I've been trying to put in words and it just comes out as WAH THE EPISODE WAS SO SUCKY when I feel like everyone else liked it and then I feel weird.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Riders of Berk + Defenders of Berk =/= physics.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Haha, sorry, that equation was mine. I meant to say that along with, just look at Toothless' plasma blasts. They're like pathetic firecrackers, they can't even stop a Changewing from dive-bombing them. And then in the HTTYD 2 trailer, he totally blew a catapult sky-high. It's ridiculously inconsistent.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Ikr? Then you feel like everyone thinks you're criticizing it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have not seen this episode yet but everything I've heard about it on tumblr makes it seem crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I just finished watching the episode, OMG. They started playing romantic flight during Astrid messing with Snotlout. THAT IS STRICTLY MEANT FOR HICCUP AND ASTRID ALONE. And Ruffnut with short hair? I know she needed to use it as 'rope'.but did she have to cut it so short she looks like a boy? Not even make it down to just past her ears? Now the only way to tell the twins apart, is that the guy looks like a girl and the girl looks like a guy! (I'm confused now.)

  60. So, I'm a pretty new fan of the franchise (saw the movie about a month ago which immediately led to getting hooked on the series as I tried to catch up), and sort of stumbled onto this site which seems like a cool place. This was actually the first episode that I was able to see when it aired on TV, so it seems like as good of a place as any to say hi to everyone here and make my first post. ****Spoilers follow for those who haven't seen it yet****

I suppose this episode could be considered filler with Dagur, the Screaming Death, and possibly Alvin all still looming without making an appearance, but I still found it enjoyable. It was especially nice to see Ruff step into the spotlight for the first time and show a different side of her character. I also liked the extended Scauldron appearance since they're just a cool species of dragon in general and we had really only seen glimpses of them until now.

As for what I didn't enjoy as much, it would definitely be the extended Astrid/Snotlout scenes. I'm not even sure the way that ultimately played out made much sense. As doggedly as Snotlout had been harassing her, I just don't see the clingy act instantly scaring him away like that. I figure he would take her at her word and claim her as his girlfriend for the time being, if for no other reason than to rub it in Hiccup's face which seems consistent with his character to this point.

Actually, since I haven't had a chance to discuss it until now, that leads into my thought that Hiccup's relationship with Astrid has possibly been the biggest head-scratcher of the entire series for me. Not that I think it should dominate the storyline, but it was a somewhat significant sub-plot in the movie that seems to have all but completely vanished here. I know the rumor is evidently that the producers are saving it for the next movie, but I personally think the way they've handled things here sticks out in a bad way, especially since we've had a scene (or scenes) of Snotlout getting shot down in multiple episodes. They really haven't shown any affection for each other at all, even at times that practically beg for it like the ending of Fright of Passage. It don't see what it would hurt if their interaction was more like what we saw in Gift of the Night Fury. It didn't detract from the main plot, but it fit so much better with the events of the movie.

Anyhow, that was a longer post than I started out aiming for. I look forward to having some fun discussions here.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed that. At the beginning of the movie, it was implied that he was so feared because he could blow away half the village by himself. Recently, we've seen villains not even be singed after being hit by a plasma blast. It's a bit odd.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sometimes Toothless's blasts can really be powerful though. Remember when he blasted a river divert in Fright Of Passage?
I suppose it makes for a better story?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I thought this episode was very funny. I like ruffnut's new look.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Because these screenshots are created by generator. They are not created by humans. And for this reason they can contain spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  65. How did you guys like Ruffnut's new hair-do and the fact that she trained a Scauldron?

    ReplyDelete
  66. did everyone think the hiccup fishlegs moment was funny

    ReplyDelete
  67. You've come to the right place, then ! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. You really are totally right and I said the same thing in my post about what they have been doing with Astrid, Snotlout, and Hiccup. I really don't like the way that their going about it anymore, its just flat out annoying and the series would be sooooo much better if they would include some kind of Hiccup/Astrid scene in these episodes. Like right especially right about Fright of Passage where they blew a perfect chance to do something with them but didn't so I have been pretty disappointed with them overall.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It was pretty funny. The way Toothless responded was great as well.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I love what Ruff did for Scauldy! Now I'm just wondering if in the film they are gonna let her stay with that new look or just let the hair grow back =)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I just shared this on fb earlier this afternoon, I was laughing my butt off! I loved seeing Falcor and Draco too. Heeeelarious stuff man!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Well, I agree with you. Actually, I'm not that into romantic scene for the series but a little Hiccup and Astrid moment would be interesting. It wouldn't hurt a bit, would they?
The series in RoB carry out Astrid and Hiccup moment just nice, like in the Animal House, Heather Report n Thawfest. But in DoB.. I'm not trying to hope for the HicStrid to dominate the whole plot in the series, no. DoB should be all about dragons, fight, Hiccup n Toothless. However, just a little moment of their relationship will be a nice add to the series, right?
Afterall, there are fans out there who would love some HiccStrid scene. =)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Someone mentioned how they felt this episode was the first we've seen that hints or leads into the 2nd movie, and its true! Did anyone else catch the whole 'impersonating Hiccup' routine that Ruff did? Astrid does her own impersonation of Hiccup in the clips from the movie we've seen so far. Hiccup even reacts the same: 'I don't sound like that!' I bet it's going to become a running gag :0) I think it's cute and funny!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Finally, just finally... a Ruff's episode! I've been wondering when will she got her own episode, without needing to share with Tuffnut, since he's more dominating than Ruff. That's quite some nice character development for her. While they're just being plain stupid most of the time, they do actually show some concern and emotion. When they're about to leave for the first time, Ruffnut seems to be the first to actually feel sorry for the Scauldron. Tuff in particular, despite saying likes to watch Ruff in danger, he shows actual concern for her! And for the first time, Ruffnut has shown some quick thinking and a good idea to use her very long hair as a rope substitute for the splint.

Although I doubt her short hairstyle will be kept in future episode, as usually anything that changed or broken about the characters in an episode usually fixed back in the following episode.

I must say even though she has a dragon already, she seems still afraid of wild dragons, first seen in The Night and the Fury and now she pleads to Scauldy not to eat her. And to think that she was actually afraid of her twin brother... it is weird. And her singing is hilarious, especially part "I've run out of things to sing." Other than that, the way she interacts with Scauldy is quite similar with how Tuffnut interacted with Torch. That being said, they both have trained two large dragons, although I must say, Ruffnut training a Scauldron is pretty impressive, since Torch was familiar and actually have been friendly since he was a baby.

I find the scene where the teens circling above Scauldy is funny.... It's like they are blessing him. Am I the only one who find it weird that they immediately know every wild dragon's gender at the first time they met? Right after seeing him, they refer the Scauldron as a he instead of it.

To think the boulder which pin one of his wings are actually not that big... it's funny how Scauldy not just rid of them on his own, he can just bashing his head to the boulders or lift it. They don't look so heavy... Would be more make sense if the boulders are actually large.

Anyways, I like how the Scauldron is featured here. In its debut and second appearance, it wasn't shown much about them, now it is seen fully and displayed it's capabilities as a whole. We just haven't seen one flying yet. And Changewings... boy... they seem to be second dragon antagonist in the series. So far, none of them are actually docile, they act and behave nothing like what's described on Book of Dragons short, except in We Are Family part I. But really, they're quite vicious, and actually not hesitate to kill other dragons for food. That's rather creepy...

Somehow I suspect both Torch and Scauldy will make a return...

    ReplyDelete
  75. LOL and there's also Draco from Dragonheart: I AM THE LAST ONE!!! :-D Too hilarious XD

    ReplyDelete
  76. As much as I agree with you, I remember reading I think on the httyd wiki that Toothless can control how powerful he wants his blasts to be, and that he can also change his fire type to a torch-like flame as seen in forbidden friendship and certain riders/defenders of berk episodes. Not sure if that plays a part anywhere. XD

Though the one thing that has been bothering me for a really long time is that Toothless' wingspan is supposed to be 48 feet....

48 feet in real life is huge...

I have wondered if measurements are different in animated movies. Sometimes I look at Hiccup's arm and judge what a foot might be then compare it to Toothless' wings, and it doesn't seem like 48 feet.

    ReplyDelete
  77. THANKYOU! I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm an animator and yeah they're called cameras. And yeah the new camera positions were pretty cool.

    ReplyDelete
  79. True. I love how Ruffnut featured so prominently here. Even when she's being serious, she's still funny. I think it's because her voice or something, she didn't sound that loud in the movie or the shorts. Well played by Andree Vermeulen :3

Yes, and Scauldy is cute. He's nasty, but cute :D

    ReplyDelete
  80. You tow didn't like The Flight Stuff? I don't really know what are the aspects that make you don't like it, but I quite enjoyed it...well, everyone has their own opinions though :)

...but, yes, Free Scauldy is better, mostly because of the full appearance of Scauldron and Ruffnut's main role :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. Could this be the episode featuring "just the dragons" we heard so much about?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Funny, I thought that was the one with Stormfly and Hookfang being harsh on each other and the other dragons might need to fix that before the mess spreads to the fest.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That reminds me of this one thing that says compared to Stoick, Hiccup's supposed to be about six feet tall. And that's in HTTYD. In HTTYD 2 he should be like seven and a half feet tall. That's just animated movies for ya.

    ReplyDelete
  84. What is the name of the episode after a tale of two dragons?

    ReplyDelete
