Berk's Grapevine

Some brand new "Riders of Berk" Storyboards!

And just when we thought we'd find no more storyboards, here's a batch from Matt Haber. With the show coming up this is probably the last batch but, hey, at least we'll be getting finished episodes instead of boards soon enough. And these actually look like they're from the first episode!

8/4 EDIT: I'm sure you all saw this coming, but they're gone. Hope you saw them while you could.

Of course we recently learned that not every batch of boards we find makes it into the final product.

And stay tuned for the preview episodes of Riders of Berk which is exactly a week away from today (otherwise known as August 7th) at 7:30/6:30c on Cartoon Network! It looks like Episodes 1-2 will be airing.

We're adding new stuff.

Figure 1: Stuff
You probably saw the new header by now, and perhaps you've also seen the Riders of Berk countdown timer in the sidebar.

But there's one more thing....

Let's face it: Blogger comments are awful. So we installed Disqus. Disqus is pretty intuitive, so you'll probably be able to figure it out.

Why Disqus?
  • Supports Google/Facebook/Twitter login
  • Spam
  • Real-time comments
  • Nested comments
  • Images!

To summarize, Disqus is basically the Night Fury of commenting platforms.

You don't have to sign in to comment, but signing in helps us prevent spammy stuff like this. You can also register with Disquss, which I highly recommend, especially if you have Googlephobia like me. If you have any problems, contact us.

We hope this will make Berk's Grapevine a more collaborative news site, and much more fun. Thanks a lot for reading and participating on this site!

A New Character: Trader Johann

Michael Goldstrom recording for the show.

Michael Goldstrom, an actor and writer, will play Trader Johann in Riders of Berk according to several posts on his Facebook page. Here's what he said about the role:
I play the recurring role of Trader Johann, aka, the merchant of Berk, the trader, or the "other," harking back to my Viking-Semitic roots (Goldström). I'm working with some phenominal voice actors, so prepare to see the magic of DreamWorks in your dumpy living room.
Awesome Post-It doodle by show
director Louie del Carmen
He calls Johann the "other," which could potentially make him a character similar to Mildew, the "local curmudgeon," who was announced at Comic-Con. It's possible he will show up in the first few episodes since we were told that they are more focused on Berk and living with dragons.

In other news, this is first picture we've ever seen of someone working on the show.

Check out Michael Goldstrom's Facebook page.

New Behind the Scenes video of Live Show!

Cartoon Network has given us a small behind the scenes look at the Live Show, hosted by the always funny (seriously, he's hilarious) Kevin Wu.

Thanks Serimon for finding this!

Also, there was another 3 seconds of new footage at the end. Click "read more" for the still frames:

Cartoon Network's "Riders of Berk" Page!

We've all been waiting for there to be an official page for the TV show on Cartoon Network's site, and here it is!

The new page features some new--though short--character profiles for the human and dragon characters, one of the new games that we predicted: "Dragon Training Legends," and all the videos.

Definitely check it out!

Thanks to anonymous submission!

UPDATE: Here's the official Facebook page.

HTTYD Screening Party July 20th

The livestream has ended now. We had a great turn out and it was tons of chaotic fun! Thank you to everyone who attended!

There will be a special screening party of How to Train Your DragonLegend of the Boneknapper Dragon, and Gift of the Night Fury this Friday, July 20th at 5:00pm EST, 2:00pm PST, and 10:00pm GMT (If your time zone is not listed here please look it up on this site or any time zone map of your choosing).

The wonderful Tumblr user Hiccstrid will be hosting it! You don't need an account to join in, just type in a screen name, grab some popcorn, and enjoy a 3 hours of Dragons while chatting it up with fellow fans! For info on where this is being hosted check either IcelandicEelBlackRose108, or Hiccstrid on tumblr!

But remember, there are limited spots available for the party, so once we've reached the limit of viewers you'll be locked out of attending, so act fast on Friday and get there on time if you really want to be there!

Plus, we'll be announcing something special at the end, so make sure you stay tuned for all three films!

Hope to see you all there!

Riders of Berk at Comic-Con

The Riders of Berk Comic-Con panel is now over. Although neither of us was able to attend, we've posted coverage on this post. Thank you all for your help gathering info and hopefully we get a panel next year!

Here are a couple of sources to keep you up-to-date:
UPDATES: Several new dragons, updated cast list, Mark Hamill, a Q&A, a poster, and PANEL FOOTAGE IS UP!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Unfortunately, the 15 minutes of new footage they showed at the panel (what we've all been waiting for) could not be recorded because everyone there were asked not to record the new footage for whatever reason. Despite the fact that this is unfair to the thousands of other fans who couldn't attend Comic Con (us included) who have been waiting just as long for new stuff, we have to honor the panel's odd (and unfair) decision.

SNEAK PEAK: A two minute clip aired on Cartoon Network.

Check out our guide.

I can say this much: it's not Berk. No one knows what their purpose is, or why they were made, or how official they are, or even
what they are. But whatever they may be, they're really beautiful.
