Berk's Grapevine

52 Dragon Episodes Expected! (UPDATE)

We heard previously that there would be two new seasons of the TV series coming out on Netflix, starting in Spring 2015. Recently, The Animation Guild's blog learned that there will be new episodes 58, which is quite a lot more than the 40 episodes of the previous two seasons!

UPDATE: There will be 52 episodes with 26 per season, not 58 as the article mentioned.

How to Train Your Dragon 3 is also in early development, but no news about that yet.

Thanks, Hiccupfriend!

  8. I believe it's in total, although 58 episodes per season would be pretty cool. :)

  9. There's a guy on Tumblr (TheRealSven), who works on the show. He said that there will be 52 episodes; 26 episodes each season. He also confirmed that it isn't called "Dragon Masters," and that there's no official name for it yet.

  10. I saw that. I wonder what they'll call it...I'm very curious. :3

I suppose this was an early draft of episode six (Alvin and the Outcasts). If the teens sneaked off to reunite with their dragons, and find Alvin had broken their secret (by forcing a villager in hiding or Mildew to give away their plan to bring the fight to Dragon Island), this might have happened. But then the network said they needed to keep Hiccstrid to an episodic minimum to avoid stepping toes over Dragons 2. The end result they had in that episode still sounds more interesting than the sneaking away that could have been because Hiccup willingly faces Alvin and gets to test his strength and intelligence.
Still, that's where I think this RoB scene was originally written, and I hope they can finally bring more Hiccstrid to the forefront later.

Sadly, I don't have Netflix (still repulsive about how they literally killed off every rental store in the US by giving us only 30 options at the Redbox). I do have Xbox 360 though, so does Netflix require a paid membership?

  15. Well, it says on the Netflix website that seasons 3 and 4 will have some focus on Hiccup and Astrid's "budding romance." After all, seasons 3 and 4 will take place about a year before the events of the second movie, according the TheRealSven, so I'm sure they have to explain how Hiccup and Astrid became a couple by the second movie.

  16. I think it's better on Netflix. They release their episodes at one time, so we don't have to wait week after week for a new one. Well, that's what they did with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.

  17. Ziggerastica's KalevalaAugust 21, 2014 at 5:49 PM

Well, Dean DeBlois has been carrying an outline of the sequels, and said that certain characters and situations will become more important in the third movie. So I think we are supposed to see HTTYD2 as satisfying on its own, but also open-ended, essentially a middle part with a follow-up being planned simultaneously. I'm still trying to process the second film, but for... reasons, I actually hope John Powell is right about how there might be a fourth movie. Rumors about that seem to be everywhere on HTTYD Youtube videos. I'll highly anticipate anything at this point, but my ability to wait for it has never been better since I saw the ending of HTTYD2 (I was expecting Drago's defeat to be more in the forefront as a cliffhanger, but with 2 new alphas, I'm still struggling to guess how they'll handle it in HTTYD3.

I still think that if a show is going to have a story with very little side points, then five days between episodes would be just enough wait to gear us up for the next episode without overdosing our impatience. But if there are a lot of side stories or just-for-fun episodes and they release them at twice a week, more power to them as long as they rerun them for the rest of us to enjoy. But for streaming all episodes at once? I don't think it should happen that the should expect to see all of them in one time. We need the hype to grow and we want to see it unfold linearly first before randomly picking episode 16 and spoiling an episode 4 introduction. There'll always be a time where you can purchase all the episodes physically, so let each episode unfold at least long enough to get hype released through, live our daily lives, and come back with expectations so the series feels like a journey you can sink yourself into and indulge.

I read somewhere that the name of Berk came from a demeaningly named English county called Berkshire ("country matters") perhaps equivalent to USA's North (industrial) and South (rural). So these Vikings seem to have been so stubborn that they refused to leave an island that they knew deserved a demeaning name. What, are trolls attracted to the threatening names? Bogs and hills nothing for miles, yep-yep.

Watchcartoononline has the online-exclusive episodes of Korra, so I hope they'll play seasons 3-4 of Dragons. Still, the amount of gossip and online game ads it gives makes it me cringe when I visit it, so I hope there's another cartoon site.

  38. xD i want to go there!!!!

  39. Here are a few things I think should be added to the episodes to come:
1.Death - And by this I don`t mean bloody murder, but the fact that there is a lot of fighting of dragons and vikings doesn`t add up to the fact that we only have about 3 deaths in 40 episodes, 2 movies and 3 shorts, The first one was the Red death, the second the gronckle eaten by the red death, and a 3rd character I won`t name.
2.More mature story lines - There were a few episodes that were strait up dissapointing in the first 2 seasons because of there ordinary, childish story lines, like "Free Scauldy". The producers have to understand that most of the fans aren`t kids.
3.Tactics and warfare - Because dragons + vikings + Hiccups brain has to = tactics and warfare. A force as strong as tamed dragons can`t be ignored, and it`s hard to belive that Berk has only 2 enemies.
4.Hicstrid - It would be unfair of me to leave this out since so many people are asking for it, but if it wasn`t put on a short leash, it wouldn`t feel as good as when it actualy happens. Even non hicstrid fans get that "Our little boy all grown up!" friend sensation. And besides we need something as a distraction from the other 3, and you`ve gotta get out of that friendzone some day!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I bet you can download the episodes from some kind of pirate site if you really want to see them without paying..

  42. We'll just have to re-watch the series, the movies, and watch that new Dragon Short until 2015. :D And of course 2016 will be the third dragon movie. Here's hoping that DreamWorks keeps that due date this time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. You forgot a death. When the Red Death spots Astrid, Hiccup, and Toothless it tries to eat them but it grabs a zippleback by accident and kills it too. I thought that was a really sad part in the first movie :'(

  44. I applaud all the fans who have been here since 2010, I didn't see the first movie until the end of 2012 so really I only had to wait for one and half years for the second. So well done all of you 2010 fans!!

  54. ~My Theories of Season 3~
    1. We'll see new dragons, of course. :3
    2. Possible new or old enemies? Maybe we'll see the alliance with the Outcasts and more of the deranged Dagur? One of the fans of Dragons heard from David Faustino (Dagur) that we would see him in the upcoming season(s).

    3. The animators said all of the gang would have different outfits from the first movie and the sequel, and we'd see the physical changes. I can see Astrid just getting into the furs, Hiccup getting into the leather biker outfit look, etc. In the sequel it looks like he wears two layered tunics! Maybe that's what he'll wear before he invents his flight suit? But in the new short as of now it looks like he just wears the outfit as Armour because we don't see his flight-suit, compass, etc., etc., etc., and his map in the journal, of course.
    4. The relationship getting tense a little bit between Hiccup and Stoick, and maybe this is why Hiccup goes off all the time? Or maybe it's because him and Fishlegs are dorks and want to find new dragons/islands while Fishlegs takes all the date and makes those cards and whanot. *shrug*
    6. Other tribes?
    7. Astrid braiding Hiccup's hair. ;-;

Let's see, what dragonific thing did I do this noon? Well, I went to the Neuse River (I think) and planned on replicating the Hictooth flight scene (second 5 minutes of HTTYD2), But my throat was parched as I said the quotes, there were no waves there, and August happened to be the month of murky rivers and dead fish. (Thornado's been disappearing into the ocean again!) Afterward, I thought Toothless might have wanted to offer the fish (too small for him, too.. fishy for me), and so I said , "Uh, no thanks. I'm good." Now after a swallow of that warm, O-less river-water, I'm sure I've found what food on Berk tastes like.

Same with me! Except mine began with piano arrangements of the score, then youtube. Pretty soon, I was obsessed with the fandom, and this was before I even saw the movie. The catch was,
a). no one here was into HTTYD
b). I live under the roof of he who claimed age 11 is too old for cartoons
c). It literally only airs at exactly the worst syndication time possible.
    Finally I borrowed a copy from my music teacher, and it was just awesome. So of course I had to work up the courage to ask for the DVD on Christmas, but when I finally got it it still felt like that awkward moment where you have to hide your package from its own sender. Then our Blu-ray stopped working 3 months later, forcing me to watch it on x-box ("Test Drive" just isn't the same without that 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 aspect radio. The wings need to cover the frame, not cut out of it.) [);>(}

Still I've been wondering if Netflix is a paid-membership-only app for TV (via X-Box 360), because if it is, then I can't watch it. So is it a pay-for-membership ordeal?

Is it a barrier against people from taking the bucket challenge? Is it the star and youtube barrier? Is he saying "Just get this water torture thing over with."? And is this a challenge the ALS do often, or is this a "challenge a requested star to get embarrassed on the internet" ordeal?
Other than that, he is the one true Hiccup! Were there by any chance other casting choices (before Dean and Chris directed)? Because Jay knows what happened in the early development (before they had to deviate from the books).

Thanks. I kept thinking her change of mind in the first film encouraged Hiccup to end the Dragon War and become accepted by society. As for the second film, I think he's hinting that their relationship may have been why he hasn't fled from Berk forever, and when she teases Drago into bringing them to Hiccup, the resulting devastation gave Hiccup the hard lesson: A chief protects his own in a war against madmen to his own life's or friend's expense, and sometimes those that the chief must fight cannot be reasoned with. Hiccup matures because she involves herself with him when he goes away mapping the world; she is a candlestick who, as the assured and confident opposite of Hiccup, guides him to the man he has to become. Without wicking away with pride or offence, she was there for him when it was Hiccup and Toothless against the world, and in turn, she also became the second-most proficient dragon trainer on Berk, behind Hiccup.

  96. I always thought that storyboard was a joke. The caption seems to be a reference to old 30s-40s) Hollywood restrictions about kissing scenes. Maybe the artist was taking a swipe at "no mushy stuff" dictates from executives. I don't know, that board just feels like a gag to me.

In spite off their differences, I would have to agree. Thanks for bringing my understanding of the Astrid vs. Drago scene full circle by making me analyze how she helped Hiccup in the 2nd film. It didn't stop me from enjoying the movie (her boastful and unfazed Camicazi counterpart from the books shone through in her, and it was wittily put in the very situation Camicazi would have done it), but up until now, I couldn't understand why she was giving this apparently stronger villain high ground for his next plan: Hiccup and Berk.
Camicazi's only flaw in a sword battle was that her taunting methods tend to make the opponent mad, to say the least! But I suppose Drago's madness was probably unaffected by Astrid (he's been as consistently insane for years as he was when she swooped in).

I can barely wait to rewatch that scene! It's almost tradition for me to watch a movie in the theater, get the DVD (if it's good), and see which parts were different than I remember. And having missed half of this part during my first of 2 viewings, I'm sure this scene will contend!

Because the other arm is bent, proportioned by depth, and the shoulder-blade section of the arm is hidden behind Hiccup's shoulder.

So excited about this! I just hope that the new stuff will be released on dvd like the first two seasons, otherwise I wont get to watch it (I don't have netflix either).
Also, I was browsing online retailers at the pre-orders for HTYD 2, and I noticed Wal-Mart had a version up that was a double pack featuring artwork for Dawn of the Dragon Racers which has a few differences from the poster we recieved a while back. It has Hiccup looking slightly younger than he does in the second movie but definityly older than HTTYD 1 and Riders/Defenders, with a slightly different outfit than his flightsuit, and he still has his old prosthetic. Also flying in the back ground is Astrid and Snotlout on their dragons instead of the twins and Snotlout (like on the poster from a few weeks ago).
Perhaps this is what Hiccup character model will look like in the new episodes? I hope so, since I was hoping we would see their models start changing subtlely as the episodes progressed.

Now there's only one new problem with this poster: Toothless' tail fins look more humongous than usual, and it looks like both of them are prosthetic.
Great to know that the other poster was likely a mere prototype; relief from all the continuity mistakes in it.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Ashley Nicole SheltonAugust 24, 2014 at 4:19 PM

Well, with Toothless's racing paint, his normal fin is painted solid red as well. His racing getup was in the Art of HTTYD 2 and it some of the films promotonal art as well. That's why his fin looks funny. But yeah, it does look a bit larger than normal.

(Sorry if this pops up two replies. I thought I already said something back but it never showed)
Toothless's offical racing art shows him with his normal fin also painted red to match his prosthetic (sans the Viking symbol). I saw it in promotional material and in the Art of HTTYD 2 book. But yeah the angle he's in makes it look wierd and disproportionate.

  124. @Ziggerastica's Kalevala, you're actually not looking at his posture/fin's correctly. Toothless has four fins total (if you count his prosthetic). Two are in the back, of course, and then he has ones near his back legs.

In a poster, long ago, it showed the all the fins painted red while his wings have been painted stripes. The brown circled fins are shown indicate that they're the same, but he's in a posture that it only shows one large one and his prosthetic tail, while the real back fin and leg fin are out of view! :D I figured it out awhile ago when looking at all the posters with race painting on.
    *sorry for incorrect English.

An entire group of the company's animators is devoted to one show at a time. I don't think free time is on their hands; I think work time is, but there's also the pre-production, designs, recording, scoring, layout, editing, writing, etc. I'm not sure if this next tidbit applies to this series also, but most episodes of "The Simpsons" are written six months before the air date. This is why there is such a long delay between seasons, to ensure several episodes can be completed before the season begins airing.

It happened with my first comment (at first, I thought it was because my email wasn't verifying). So you got to get more than one copy of this movie? I couldn't convince anyone in my family to re-buy a movie unless it was under $10 (thanks a lot, reruns). But if I could, I would sneak my way to the entertainment isles just to read what new bonus features were on it. This is why we rarely go near that isle. So did this version actually give the 17-18 scenes names?

    ReplyDelete
  147. Ashley Nicole SheltonAugust 25, 2014 at 5:58 PM

Yeah, I'm not big on buying multiple copies unless the extras are good or its one of my faves. Fortunanately the collectors edition was only $13, so it wasn't so bad. And I was willing to pay since my first copy of the film was the cheepest version available at the tme and I wasn't sure I'd like it or not and it only had a comentary track as bonus (then a week later they announced the collectors edition being release so I waited for it). The extras were nice (new to me since I'm newer-ish to the series): the Frozen episode, Legend of the Boneknapper, Book of Dragons, a few deleted scenes and a few other fun things. But the booklet wasnt all that grand, just a 8 pg thingy with each character's racing stats, record of wins, colors, and a mock up race story to introduce Dragon Racing. I just got it cause it was offered extra for free.

And sadly no, it didn't give each sceen a name.

  150. Ziggerastica's KalevalaAugust 25, 2014 at 11:13 PM

Oh, so it didn't. I was wondering because the way they connected the scenes in order to condense to 17 made little sense, as in "Why does Not So Fireproof form a full scene on its own but the Romantic Flight doesn't?"
So, the version I have is the 2-disc silver-edged slit-covered one with Hiccup and Toothless doing the hand-snout touch against the moonlight. I find it infinitely better than the first release, though the feature disc still has no decoration and uses the same menu backgrounds as it. There was a booklet, but it was about School of Dragons, and the Live Spectacular (which is what the bonus disc is really about, aside from the 2 shorts, a Viking Personality Test- where we first hear the Berkians being referred to as "Hooligans"- the same background character animations from the other DVD, the Gobber's Tips TV spots, and the Sochi TV spots). The two Live-spectacular promo documentaries can be found on SerimonVideo's Youtube channel, along with the "Finding the Story" making-of documentary (not on any DVD) The feature DVD includes 3 deleted scenes, how to draw Toothless, commentary, and two featurettes (about the technical aspects of the HTTYD world, and one about Cressida Cowell's first inspirations for the book series.
The "Gift of the Night Fury" special and the making-of documentary are sadly not included.
Well, that covers the only edition I bought. I wasn't sure if it was a special limited edition, but the ONLY photo of it comes from Blu-ray.com (of the back side).
In case your wondering, the second Live Spectacular promo documentary is called "How to Find Your Dragon," which I must warn, does go overboard at first with the possible existence of real dragons, but then explains that they are actually looking for parts of real animals that may have influenced or have a characteristic of a dragon. And yes, there's a fire-breather, just not in the way we associate with the dragons. I'm astounded by how much content this DVD can have when all the 2013 animation DVDs can't seem to have more than one special feature. I'm newerish, too. In fact, it was a fan's piano arrangements and youtube fan-videos that introduced me to the fan base 2-in-a-half years ago (more about it in some comment below).

I was annoyed by that too. They should have divvied them up and named them by the musical track playing during each scene, imo.

Aww, that's the version I wanted! Before I first decided to get the movie, that was the version every store I went to had, but once I went back with the intention of getting it, they all vanished... and all I could get was a single disc version with the Hiccup flying on Toothless and Astrid flying on Stormfly being chased by the Red Death cover art. I think it originally came as a double packwith Legend of the Boneknapper and it had the other Riders on that half of the packaging. Then later when I went back they had the other version again, I was so mad.
I got Gift of the Night Fury a few months ago when it was rereleased (got 4 free tickets to see HTTYD 2 that way~ one on each of the Defenders of Berk dvd sets, and on the HTTYD collectors edition blu-ray) so I wasn't too sad it wasn't included on the main movie with the other two.
All this describing the extras to me is makin me want to buy that copy of the movie, too, haha.

This isn't the only time DreamWorks used a Madagascar character as an extra in HTTYD. In the flight to the Dragon's Den from the first film, either a Monstrous Nightmare or a Hideous Zippleback had cached in on Gloria the hippo, albeit obscured by fog.

I'll wait for commentary, because when Gloria was mentioned to be in the first film, I couldn't recognize her form. There was fog to obscure her then, but for this, there are crowds. Now, I couldn't find any DW cameos in the theater, but I do know it's very common in animation to make references to earlier or even future products. No, unless I drive to the next city for Best Buy. But they don't give that kind of selection here, and the parking's terrible. Besides, my parents avoid the movie isle at almost all costs. Now I used to live in Arizona, which had a Hastings, but everything there was at one point used. I also happen to have a father who teases me every time I look forward to a new animated film, so I am in the wrong age and the right age to enjoy these types of films, which I doubt will change anytime soon. So I'd have to wait for it to be a holiday check-out item (near the cashier) and get a sibling to ask.

Oh, yikes. I'll never complain about the stores here in Kentucky again, lol. I live in the boonies and Best Buy is 50+ miles away, so I dont go there often unless it's a last resort on something I can't find closer. Hastings isn't much closer, but the town it's in offers more store options and the road there isn't a traffic hazard, so I frequent it.
Ah, I know what you mean. Above the targeted age group but just old enought to thoroughly appreciate a film for what it is and still enjoy it.
That sounds like some people in my family. They're like 'you're 25! you don't need cartoons!' Thankfully my mom and dad both love animated movies too so the other's negativity doesn't bother me. And I don't have any siblings to ask to get stuff for me.

I agree with the awful online quality of facebook videos. I found the image from howtotrainyourdragon.com, and it was so blurred, I only found one penguin. I'm still not laying down this possibility though. If Mickey can be found underwater in a crowd from "The Little Mermaid," I see no reason to not believe a DW character from another DW movie can't make a cameo here.

Age 11 was the number where my enjoyment of animation was challenged, and though I don't watch much of those shows from 2000s anymore, I still look back to see what was missing from their newer counterparts. They can still have some intelligence behind their bizarre nature, and as long as the tone works, such moments rarely bother me (except post-Ice Age 2 movies from Blue Sky Studios). My father can be completely turned off from a movie because the V8 c800 Ford engine doesn't sound like a real V8 c800 Ford engine, and ruin the Jurrasic Park rain/ T-rex scene by constantly acknowledging aloud the stupidity of the children in it. So minor lee-ways from realism are quite insufferable aside from "Cars" for him. I, on the other hand can tell what I want to look forward to when I see it, and I have figured that animated films don't have to be limited to the under-12 audience. This is a 4-quadrant film, in that it appeals to men, women, children, and adults. The directors of HTTYD say about this my probable favorite quote for overage animation appeal: "We don't write movies for children. That is a misconception. We write movies for ourselves."--(interview from FX Movie Download)
I'm trying to convert the images to a smaller file size for the web. Hopefully, they can be zoomed in on and don't slow down the scroll button like the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with Jay video did. I'll see about trying youtube for the walkthrough videos of the DVD.

For me it's more about how charming the characters are or the emotion in the story. If that doesn't catch me right off the bat, I'm gone and don't usually look back. As long as I'm totally in love with the characters/story anything else is a minor inconvenience that I can easily forgive.

I love that about this series. It has elements that people of every age can relate to and sympathize with. And it's not afraid to be mature and take risks. And even the younger children can see the depth in the story and feel and understand and take something from it.
I read somewhere that the majority of people that saw HTTYD 2 in theaters were age 25 and up and at least 56% were female. My dad went with me to see it and before that a lot of my dad's co-workers were telling him about how great it was (and they didn't even have kids of their own, just saw it because they wanted to). So obviously that should tell other film makers something. That '12-and-under' is a stereotype that badly needs to be broken.

Thanks. Don't worry about videos. Podunk town, podunk internet... I can't watch online videos unless I go some place with wifi.

  169. It would be really neat if this model was used in the short (I suppose that would be likely), but like others have noted, it would also been really cool if this kind of in-between version of Hiccup's armor (and model) was used in the upcoming series. Yep, this makes me significantly more excited about the short! Funny... his in between armor really lacks some of the more heroic looking elements of his final design (like the difference in the shoulder pads and gauntlets... wow, even the prosthetic is the same as the first film [though I suppose that could be an error... it may not be!]).

I believe it will be. Today HTTYD's offical FB page posted about Amazon's pre-order for the movie, and in the photo (it's tiny, and its not the same image used on the actual Amazon item description page; guess they haven't updated it yet) but if you look closely you can see Toothless is in the same pose as he is in the artwork for walmart pre-order.

I was originally hoping we'd see subtle aging in the character's models for the new seasons -have them a bit taller, new or modified outfits, maybe add in elements of their appearance from the new movie like Tuff's dreds or Leg's new helmet... stuff like that, just to show they are growing older- but since it's supposedly (according to previous comments) going to be just a year or so before the events of HTTYD 2, I'm satisfied with this character model. So, giving that it's a year earlier, I'd assume his flight suit/armor isn't completed yet and possibly not his new prosthetic either (I know when they announced the new seasons they said that it would go into how Hiccup made the flight suit and Inferno); and if you look closely you can see he isn't wearing the flight suit's lower half (the straps that stick out from the sides of his legs are missing) and his shirt and pants look darker to me than they did in the second movie (my artist side picks up on stuff like that, lol.). It's probably Hiccup's early design for his armor.

Though I still don't like the whole time-skip from Hiccup being just barely 16 at the end of season 2 to him being 19 or 20 for seasons 3 and 4. It isn't exactly "bridging the gap" like they said it would, that's leaving way to many holes in the story for my liking. Hopefully they make up for it.

I'm actually kind of hoping now that this short takes place chronologically before seasons 3 and 4 of the tv show and, since the title of the short implies it's when they first start racing, that we will see dragon races in the new shows.

  171. Well, the simple fact that he is in a new design and is clearly younger than in HTTYD2 is some of the most exciting news I've heard in a while, so thanks for posting it. This would have snuck up on me!

I don't have Netflix, so I am kinda on the fence as to how I will watch the series. Ugh... I could get Netflix, but my computer has a filter (which I personally want to stay there), and I imagine it would really make getting Netflix difficult. So... because of that I'm really not thinking that much about the series. I will try and see it, but I might have to wait a while. Though... personally some elements in RoB and DoB really let me down. They were still great... for tv show standards, but they just didn't stick close enough to the movies for me to fully enjoy them. *Maybe* the new seasons will be more careful, but right now I kinda focus on the movies and then the series really come second. Actually... movies first, then GotNF, then the series XD But, I'm excited to be getting new HTTYD stuff! Wow, but what I really can't wait for us to see what Dean has in store for us in the third movie! Of course... I also am really ready for the second one to be out on DVD, too. Ah, so much to look forward to!

    No problem ;)
Yeah, I don't have netflix either. I only got to see the tv show on dvd. My fingers are crossed they'll release the new seasons on dvd eventually too.
I'm ready for second movie to be released already too. It comes out exactly two weeks and one day before my birthday so I'm already like 'best birthday present ever'.

True, which is why we don't have cable/satelite. Why pay the $50+ a month when you know all it is is reruns and when you already own most of the movies they show? That's my personal oppinion.

I always found all the quirkiness and the dorky moments endearing since they were so unusual. It was another way the movie stood out to me. Along with all the emotional ups and downs.
The only problem I ever had with the film was the design of the dragons. That's what turned me off to it initally, despite the fact that I love dragons in general and I was actually in a everything-has-to-be-dragons phase at the time it was first released. Something about them just irked me. But now I adore them and I can't believe it took me this long to discover the franchise. It's my absolute favorite now. And I never thought anything would dethrone Beauty and the Beast as my favorite movie ever.

Normally, howtotrainyourdragon.com is days behind the Grapevine in bringing this stuff up, but this (released today) is brand new! Now, it uses clips from the movie and interviews. aside from captioning names, there isn't new content within the web-mag's video. The text below it is original, though and... [(:>0} 60 minutes of making-of! Deleted scenes! Dragon Stats! Dragon Racing Game! Walkthrough of Berk! Featurette of the cast! Yes Yeah-Yes! GOT TO GET BLU-RAY EDITION! [gulps at prices] (unfortunately... DVD?!!) And to top it all off they actually had the decency to not reveal Valka on the front cover- yes! (They just had to have the Green Death, a 3rd-act surprise, ruin its spoiler on the first film's DVD, didn't they?) I wanna see the reaction my parents have when they first see Valka (and I possibly challenge the Vine to Videotape other first-timers' reactions if possible. We didn't have any trailers or TV spots here, so this has to be her first viewing if the Blu-Ray commercials are equally few.)

My mother actually got rid of satellite TV in February 27, 2009. I remember because Finding Nemo was on Disney Channel as the last thing we saw, and it happened to be the initial day all TVs were required to use a digital DVR before it was pushed back to June that year. She considered TV to be depressing (well, that's what LMN and SOAP NET is for), and got rid of it to lower moving expenses. Although The hot city had nothing outside worthwhile to make TV look like a bummer. Then my father wanted to see sports again, so we got satellite back after moving.
The part that bothers me now is the fact that the teens are sitting well on the neck of their dragons, and the dragons aren't being strangled. But then again, it allows them to engage their dragons into their antics better (Tuffnut: "Since when? Everyone knows I'm more irritating!"--turns Belch's head upside down and acts irritating), and I've been surprised by the durability of scales and animal muscles before. Perhaps their adams apple isn't where the riders sit and the neck is one of their strongest parts. Now I didn't grow up with fantasy (wasn't allowed to see witches and voodoo stuff), so I can't say the dragons got me interested in the movie. And I think that's one key reason why I had to be introduced to it through the fandom. The characters, cinematography, and music veered me into it, and then I adjusted to the rest. And as I learned that the TV show would eventually tie in to the second film (eventually), I realized that a lot of the suspension of disbelief was being resolved in the show, and I was able to enjoy the movie more. I love how they decided to base the dragons on new sources instead of pure reptilian+wings. And they have gone the extra mile with just the way the Dragon Manual describes their awesomeness. I've gotta see them find a Timberjack and Snaptrapper: they've already created stats and CGI models for them! ...
    And get some more bread-making Vikings or home repair Vikings! [;>,p)}

  180. I was thrilled to read that we're getting a commentary again. A lot of the more recent DreamWorks releases haven't had one...

We've never had it. We just got the little digital box they made everyone get. My relatives all have satellite and all they do is complain about how there's nothing on any of the channels and then turn around and ask why we don't go ahead and get it, lol.
I'd imagine their necks would have to be strong, some of those dragons have some pretty big noggins. Not to mention, their muscles and scales would have to be VERY sturdy and durable as a means of surviving in fights, seeing as how when the dragons fight they automatically go for the other's neck. But most likely, it's probably just one of those 'cartoon physics' things viewers are just supposed to accept as it suits the story.
Hm, I stay away from the occult and voodoo stuff personally but it doesn't mean a person cant enjoy a good story with witches and magic and fantasy in it, like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings (love~) and those nitpicky few shouldn't treat it like a crime just because you do enjoy it (I got in a big debate about that with one of my aunts when I was 12 about that sort of thing). And I've always loved mythology and mythological creatures, my mom finds in funny how engrossed I get in stuff like that.
Yeah, I love the originality of the dragons now. I can't wait to see a Timberjack in action either! Oh, have you seen the new dragons they're introducing to the MMO games (School of Dragons/Rise of Berk)? Theyre's some neat ones there, like the Tide Glider (probably my fave of all the new ones; looks like a Sea Dragon (as in the breed of sea horse)) and the Sand Wraith and the Shockjaw and Hackatoo. They are really cool. If you haven't you can find them on the HTTYD wikia I linked to you earlier. I really recommend looking at them. ;)

  185. Cressida Cowell's original Httyd books are also amazing. The plot twist, Hiccup's struggle and emotional message are very amazing and spectacular as well. When is the 12th book going to be released? I mean the final one?

    ReplyDelete
  186. I know! I want to see it too but at the same time I'm scared to see where it will all end since Cowell said the last book and last movie will end the same way and we all know it's supposed to explain why there aren't any dragons around anymore. DX

!!!SPOILER WARNING!!!I'm actually trying to make a video on my opinion about the ending. There's a petition on change.org to change it. I just thought it'd be necessary for me to explain why I'm not signing it. Some say the soul of the film will be broken, and others say there's too many differences to even bother trying to unite them. I broke the key differences down to about four things so far, but it'll take weeks to film and for me to get the video to play smoothly (airplane noise and school). I'm thinking about marking it as a forbidden video that's only available upon request (private) to avoid spoiling the ending two years early.
